A 30-Minute Sabbath Leadership Check-in

It’s so easy in the busyness of leadership to not stop, rest, and reflect. But Sabbath is a very important spiritual formation habit, not only for a healthy spiritual and physical life, but for learning and growth in leadership. We need time to step away from the daily grind, reflect on the previous week, and recommit ourselves and our leadership to God.

Leadership is not just what we do. It’s how we live. The 30-Minute Sabbath Leadership Check-In is a weekly spiritual formation practice that invites leaders to pause, reflect, and realign their lives with the values of God’s Kingdom. In just half an hour, this rhythm creates space to examine five key areas of leadership—Time, Trust, Temple, Treasure, and Talent—through the lens of spiritual, relational, physical, financial, and missional priorities. It’s a gentle invitation to lead from a place of rest, clarity, and obedience, remembering that our influence flows not from striving, but from abiding in Christ. This practice helps leaders stay grounded in grace, attentive to God’s presence, and faithful in the small things that shape a life of impact.

This is an invitation to take 30 minutes every week to ask yourself the reflection questions after each leadership value. Go for a walk, journal, or exercise – whatever embodied habit you enjoy the most – as you reflect on these questions. Then spend some time recommitting yourself to lead before the face of God.

Time: Spiritual Priorities

My leadership flows from a heart formed by spiritual practices that center my love on Jesus as King. I lead in obedience, not ownership, discerning where God is already at work and participating in his mission with humility and faithfulness.

Reflection questions: Am I beginning each day grounded in Christ’s presence through Scripture, prayer, and stillness? Am I leading from that center rather than from urgency or anxiety?

Trust: Relational Priorities

I lead within the context of a community where healthy relationships are essential, shaping character, providing clarity, and guiding our mission. Leadership means pursuing and sustaining relational wholeness as a core ethic.

Reflection questions: Are my relationships marked by relational wholeness, mutual trust, and Christlike love? Where am I being called to pursue reconciliation or deeper connection?

Temple: Physical Priorities

Holistic leadership includes caring for my body. By maintaining rhythms of rest, nutrition, and movement, I can lead with strength, clarity, and with a non-anxious presence. Stewarding my body is an act of worship to Jesus.

Reflection questions:Am I caring for my body with rhythms of rest, movement, and nourishment that enable me to lead with strength and a non-anxious presence?

Treasure: Financial Priorities

My finances reflect my worship and love for God. I lead as a faithful steward, investing temporal resources into eternal purposes while gratefully enjoying God’s good gifts.

Reflection questions:Do my financial decisions reflect worship, simplicity, and eternal priorities? Or am I subtly serving scarcity, status, or self-protection?

Talent: Missional Priorities

My life finds purpose in Christ’s mission to renew all things. I steward my time, strengths, education, and experiences as gifts entrusted by God, using them faithfully wherever he leads for his glory and the peace his kingdom brings—at work, in the church, and beyond. I am called to do small things with great love.

Reflection questions:Am I using my time, gifts, and experiences in ways that align with God’s renewing mission in both visible leadership and hidden acts of love?
